For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Death Koolaid? How long has the band been around?
I, Siren Sycho have been in a few bands before this one, Bett The Dead Man (2003 – 2006), Charlie Uniform November Tango (2006-2008), Dead Broads (2011), Death Makes Pretty (2012-2013).
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We are named after the Jonestown massacre. Never changed it.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write the lyrics, which are mostly about experiences I’ve had in my life, real raw stuff. I like to tell it how it is and not sugar coat things. Then the music spurts out of the rest of the guys.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
I’m inspired by bands like Amen, Ministry, Motley Crue, L7, The Runaways and Star Fucking Hipsters.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
The band Amen really inspired me to be in a band. The line up changed so many times but the vocalist, Casey Chaos always bounced back and persevered bring out more music. I remember watching them on the main stage at Reading 2003 and Casey jumped of a massive stack of amps and I thought “I want to do that”!
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
I’m normally trying to get my makeup and hair right, which takes up most of my time right before a show. The rest of the guys just get up to no good.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Winning the Emergenza battle of the bands and getting nominated for a UKMVA in a category with Pharrell Williams and Damon Albarn was pretty cool. But I think for us as a band its our new album. It’s a massive step up for us, and now we just wanna get it out there.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Marlin Manson. Sabbath, Amen, Slipknot, Nirvana- all to do with their music and live performances. These bands are know to have great fan bases.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Go buy our album, Check our videos out and come see us play. You may or may not like it J.
