Unsigned Spotlight: Dead Eyes Always Dreaming

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Spencer Robinson - Drums

Andrew Holiday - Guitar

Kenneth Evans - Guitar

Alexander "Sasha" Hunter - Vocals

Alec Journey - Bass

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Dead Eyes Always Dreaming? How long has the band been around?

Spencer was apart of Violent Vessel (Kalamazoo MI), Kenneth and Sasha were apart of Hail Of Fire (Battle Creek MI), Alec was in Legions Of Raum (Chicago, IL), and myself was in The Breathing Method/Hail Mary! (Grand Rapids MI). Dead Eyes Always Dreaming is going on 3 years, if I recall.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name loosely comes from H.P. Lovecraft book called, "Call Of Cthulhu". Spencer and myself are big fans. I'm sure the other dudes like H.P. as well haha. The name has been D.E.A.D. from the beginning and will remain D.E.A.D. until the end.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all contribute to the writing process in some way, shape, or form. Our themes and topics are most of the time based on hate, alien invasions, satanic, and evil tendencies. We are "hatecore" for a reason haha. The concepts of each release may be different, but I think the underlying message will always be the same.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Music is ever-evolving and ever-changing. We all have different music we enjoy listening to. I'd say to sum it up, for Dead Eyes, it would be bands like Carnifex, Lorna Shore, The Black Dahlia Murder, Deafheaven, but in all honesty, the list is infinite.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

For me personally, it was Tool. They will remain my favorite band until the end of time. For the other dudes, I cannot put words into their mouths for them.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

I stretch sometimes, I use to work out, should probably get back into that. I know Spencer works out, and usually plays on his pad for awhile. The other dudes usually do the ol', "herbal medication" haha.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The opportunities of bands we got to share the stage with. For me personally, just that someone appreciates the hard work we do, and enjoys it. It makes me really happy to see people get joy from such a vile creation. Beauty comes in mysteries ways I suppose.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

For me, Tool. Previously stated, my favorite band.

Actuality: Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Fallujah, Vildhjarta. Honestly, we'll tour with anyone haha.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you all for the support. Without you guys we are nothing. Thankful for all the opportunities we are given, and love you guys so much. Always.
