For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Dead Eyes? How long has the band been around?
We just launched Dead Eyes about a month ago. The four of us were founding/remaining members of a band called Vital Signs and we got to a point where a fresh start seemed fitting. We have all been very involved in our local scene for years. Runk used to play in a band called An Early Ending and I (Bolton) remember playing shows with them years ago which definitely played a role in us being where we are today.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We did recently rebrand. The name Dead Eyes came to us as it seemed to portray the message of a lot of what we’re writing about. We’re trying to discuss some subjects that people feel uncomfortable talking about. We are cogs in a broken machine and the time to ignore it has passed.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We all contribute to the songs in our own way. We get some ideas and take it down to our great friends Rob Endling and Curt Martin at Bloodstone Studio in North Carolina. They are great songwriters and producers and when we all get together magic seems to be the result.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Bring me the Horizon, Pvris and Hands Like Houses are bands that come to mind.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
We’ve all known since we were young that music is something we were interested in. For me, I can say Kurt Cobain inspired me to pick up a guitar. I can’t say I would have gotten quite as far with music if I relied on my voice alone lol
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc
Being around each other is all the preparation we need. There is such an energy between us that keeps us motivated and moving.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
American Nightmare was our debut so we didn’t really have anything to top, but we are very proud that we got over 12,500 views for the music video in the first week.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Bring me the Horizon would be very inspiring to me. I would also love to tour with Blessthefall because I could play Dragon Ball Z cards with my boy Elliott every night, and with I, Prevail because I’m a huge fan of them and think they would be a lot of fun.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We want to say a very special thank you to anyone who has supported us in anyway already. We are very happy with what we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time and we have absolutely no intentions of slowing down.
