For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to CryFace? How long has the band been around?
Ian used to make music as Human Cannonball, but we've all been working as CryFace for about two and a half years now.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Ian got a patch as a gift that said "CryFace" and had a crying face on it, fancy that! Many names were thrown around but CryFace stuck.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Ian and Levi write the majority of the songs, a lot of the themes are related to our lives and relationships. As our lives change the topics may change, whatever feels appropriate.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Our influences are always changing, but some basic influences are David Bowie, The Beatles, The Talking Heads, Pavement, The Kinks, and Of Montreal.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Not necessarily, Ian and Levi had wanted to start a band for a while, then Daniel joined, and Robert a year later. There wasn't a particular instance or band that inspired us, it was more the constancy of music in our lives that made us feel we had to.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We drink lots of coffee, touch each other's bodies and gather a jestful spirit.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Releasing Suds. We're extremely proud of it, it's our best album yet. Also acquiring Robert.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Current bands, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard puts on an incredible show which we'd love to be a part of. For older bands Pavement seem like fun dudes to hang with; also David Bowie in 1974, coked out and dabbling in soul.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Suds is out right now on Big Love Records with vinyl coming very soon!
