For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Counterfeit Culture? How long has the band been around?
-So we actually were all in the same band prior to being "Counterfeit Culture". We were super young, still in high school, and recording out of Nick's basement. That band was called Sovereign Kings. Counterfeit Culture is a new project (5 months), with a new vision, but with the same guys.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
-We chose the name "Counterfeit Culture" because it better suits the message we want to portray and the direction we want head. Basically our message is that so many people in today's day and age succumb to what society tells them how to dress, act, talk, etc. which isn't how it should be. People can dress, act, talk, etc. however they may please and shouldn't be told otherwise by our society. Since this is a new project with a completely new direction, this would be the first time we changed the name.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
-We actually all pretty much add our own parts to the songs. Patrick usually sends the rest of us a pre-pro track that he's wrote and then we all add our own input to it and fine tune everything from there. Most of our songs are about real life experiences that we've either gone through ourselves or about experiences that we've seen directly in the lives of others. Over time, we're just going to keep writing music that is super personal to us, but also that other people can relate to and connect with.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
-We all listen to Erra, Invent Animate, Novelists, and a bunch more so I'd say that's where our music is being inspired by. We also take a lot of alternative influence in our music, from bands like The 1975, Run The Jewels, and The Wombats.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
-To be completely honest not really. We are all super passionate about music and wanted to start writing music of our own at a very young age.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
-Well everyone kind of does there own thing before a show. We all need some sort of alone time before a show to clear our heads and be mentally ready. Also, stretching! Stretching definitely helps out with the physical wear and tear aspect of playing shows.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
-We were just added to The Summer Slaughter Tour date at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. That is definitely the biggest highlight so far, being a fairly new project.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
-Periphery, Rage Against The Machine, and Architects. Those bands are super tight.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
-Yes, huge thank you to our manager Connor Jordan and to our producer Ricky Armellino. Without these dudes we for sure as hell wouldn't be where we are at right now.
Thanks guys!
