Copper Bones is a hard rock/metal two-piece from Orlando, Florida
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Ryan - Bass & Vocals / Gregg - Drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior Copper Bones? How long has the band been around?
Copper Bones has been around since the end of 2015. We formed this band to play a reunion show for Ryan's ex band My Hotel Year. Been rockin' and rollin' ever since. We've been in too many bands to list, none of which anyone has ever heard of... though we both were in a band called Peterbuilt in the mid-to-late 90s.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Our name is a reference to The Goonies movie... One of the best films of the 1980s if you ask us.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We both write the songs... mostly Ryan with Gregg helping with the arrangements and most of them were/are written on the fly, while we're jamming and warming up before rehearsal. Topics and themes are all over the place. Whatever strikes at the moment works for us. We won't sing about politics or political things, that shit sucks!
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We both listen to all different kinds of music, but at the moment we're really digging - Brutus, Ghost, Hopesfall, Gojira, Hum, Black Orchid Empire, Biffy Clyro, Alien Weaponry, Oingo Boing... to name a few.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
That's a difficult question to answer... Ryan's entire family is musical - musicians and singers - so he's been around that most of his life and has always had melodies, lyrics and riffs bouncing around in his head. Gregg, on the other hand, has mostly been inspired by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and the songs and prayers of his Jewish upbringing. He's dangerous with a pair of finger cymbals!
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Before a show we enjoy some ice cold adult beverages and some high fives from our adoring fans!
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
The biggest highlight for us is that we love to perform and write. Those two things, alone, are highlights to us. Making music is wonderful and extremely cathartic. But we have also shared the stage with some great bands and look forward to doing so in the future when the world returns to normal.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Oh, that's a difficult one... Gregg would say Kiss or Rush - he was huge into them as a kid; still is, honestly. Ryan would probably say Foo FIghters; he mostly just wants to hang out and drink with Dave Grohl.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Copper Bones, westward foams, triple stones.
