Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Well there's some guy in charge, he writes most of the stuff, another guy hitting drums, some girl who sometimes turns up and plays guitar, and I think another guy, but we're not sure what he does.
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?
We've all been in a few bands here and there of varying successes but to be honest, we're in this one now because we weren't getting what we wanted elsewhere. We're like the hot young stripper you leave your wife of 30 years for. Cohesion has been around now for about 3 years in some form or another, started as a solo project and just evolved from there really as more personalities were mixed in and session players enjoyed it and stayed put!
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Wish I could tell you...everyone asks this, really don't know! I had a list of potential names and I was working through them and then one day Cohesion came up, stuck, and it wasn't even on the list!
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Skink does. He's the singer, he also started the band, but then the rest join in and it becomes a team effort after that. In terms of themes...christ...depression, love, sex, drugs, lobotomies, politics, the paranormal... Anything! It's usually whatever is the topic of interest at the time and so of course this could and would change over time, who knows what could all go tits up in the world next, you write what you know and what you see, so...
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
NIN, Deftones, Tool, APC, the usual really. I mean when bands like that start pushing the boundaries, there's really no excuse for not trying to push your own boundaries, and hopefully someone else's too.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Aha! I'm sure we've all got our own personal reasons but who could forget trying to air guitar with a plastic ukulele to a cassette of Genesis on one side and Dire Straits on the other...
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Yeah we all have a ritual to be honest, I get psyched up with some epic 80s inspirational African music, guitarist does his finger exercises, drummer faffs with about three cameras...we all just get on with it to be honest, and give each other the space to mentally prepare, none of this all-hands-in-the-middle-and-cheer crap; when we get on stage, 30 seconds to go, that's when we actually see each other properly and lock eyes and the feedback starts...and that feeling of "yeah let's fucking do this!" all just clicks into place. That feeling right there is what we live for.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
We've just come off the back of a great show over at Bearded Theory festival in Derby - we expected to be a bit fish out of water there but we needn't have worried, people loved it and we were the welcome (albeit heavy) respite from a weekend of folk and eclectic world music! Plus, we had two toddlers with big earmuffs running about rocking the fuck out, encouraged by their metalhead dad, that's badass.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Maybe Rob Zombie? Him and his look like they know how to have a good time. AMD then tell the best stories over a beer in the afternoon waiting for soundcheck, I think they'd be pretty good dudes. Them and Puscifer. Just so we could have the privilege of watching them every night.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Always! Go check out our latest single Avarice, on Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, iTunes or wherever hell else you get your music from! It's sick.
Cohesion out.
