Classified Frequency combine some of the best parts of pop/rock from each decade. The quartet has toured consistently and pounded the pavement in the DC and Baltimore scene, opening for acts like Gin Blossoms, The Last Year, Bad Seed Rising, and Rites of Ash.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Classified Frequency? How long has the band been around?
Hmm...Derek Evry and His Band of Misanthropes, Orange Line, Mason Vixon, Side FX, Rites of Ash, Rew Smith, Junior Doctor, Mark Hopkins and the Hotel,
Griffy Rhodes, Sinclair
Matt has been writing songs under Classified Frequency since around 2005. Our first EP, which was self produced came out in 2009.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The idea for the name was actually the frequency that we search for extraterrestrial life. Apparently, there’s no term for that so I came up with Classified Frequency. That’s always been the name.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Matthew Berry writes all of the songs. Matt writes a lot of breakup songs...lol. Love is definitely an overall theme but Matt also writes a lot about things that just bother him in society. We assume they’ll evolve just like everything...what makes him tick today may not 5 Years from now.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
For this EP, there’s definitely a lot of Butch Walker, Cheap Trick and The Stereo influences as to most of our stuff.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Nirvana and Green Day come to mind as early band influences. Matt’s first concert was Green Day’s Insomniac Tour.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Usually a drink and a quiet place to get our minds right.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Probably opening for the Gin Blossoms last year. It was sold out, 900 people and the crowd loved us which was new...lol
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Butch Walker is definitely an idol of ours and just one of the best showman ever. Queen would have been incredible to witness every night.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Just hope everyone enjoys the new EP and tells their friends!
