Inspired by the shared human experience, Centershift communicate the nuances of life through apexes of hearty, distorted guitar overlaid with intricate, mournful riffs and punctuated by biting, contemplative vocal-driven verses.
Please list all your band members and roles in the band?
Jasan Radford Vocals and rhythm guitar, he’s more than the front man to us he’s more like the glue that keeps us together and always nudging us in the direction we need to go
Ryan Stuber guitar, he’s more of a peaceful zen monk/guitarist there’s a sort of peacefulness when he plays and you get the feeling that what he adds is exactly what was needed, nothing more.
Ted Wenri Bass/ backing vox and maybe other things, I would characterize myself as a fun loving kinda guy but when there’s work lets work and when it's time to play lets play
Stefan Storace Drummer,he’s a fireball of energy, I think we could solve the energy crisis if we could bottle that fire, just an overall good dude with nothing but positive energy
For starters what bands were you guys a part of prior to Centershift, how long has the band been around?
A) Well of course most people know J was in onesidezero among others projects along the way, Ryan was in Shuvel and also another project with J I think it was the knife outline, I was in Bemus, and Stef was in blueprint with J
Whats the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We went thru several names before we settled on Centershift, all the names before were like place holders till we agreed on this name, we were still writing music and figuring out our sound when J came up with centershift, I think I was commenting on how things were moving towards the center, not just in life but creatively with our sound, our personal styles were finally coming together and our music was sounding more like songs, it started to feel like home.
Who writes the songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of you songs?
We all take part in the writing of the music, J writes all the vocals, it mostly starts with either J, Ryan or I having an idea that we email to each other and we build off of it, once it gets to a point that it is sounding like a song we bring it to our studio and really start working on it. The themes are typically from J’s experience with life and his journey, that’s always been his style and I think that’s what people connect to most.
What bands are currently inspiring the music you’re making?
That would be a hard question to answer as there are so many great bands over the years that I enjoyed listening to and between us we have very unique musical tastes, I guess I would say the local scene here in LA motivates me to keep doing what we do. Honestly I just never stop being a musician, I’m always working on something and when I’m not I’m thinking about it, I never asked but I get the sense we all feel the same.
Was there a particular band / artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
That would be a good question for the other guys, I started playing in bands to get into clubs for free and get free drinks and meet girls, never really took music seriously as a career, still don’t I just enjoy the brotherhood and making music with my centershift family.
What do you do to prepare for a show, any flexing, exercises, etc?
Stef is really the only one with a routine, he does yoga and is down dogging backstage lolz, rest of us usually find a spot to grab some snacks and a beer an just chill
What has been the biggest highlight of the bands career so far?
Working with Jim Wirt, each trip into the studio we have grown as a band, but his energy and attitude towards music really makes the whole process fun, I cant wait to get back there and make more music, its like we are all family and I just miss it when we are done.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
A) Past, I would love to tour with the police or the who just to be there and see them perform, present day Primus, Sigur Ros, Quicksand or Turnstyle. We played shows with Don’t Panic and they are fun folk so that would probably be a comical road trip, Grumpy Plum would be cool since Tallulah did some vox on some songs with us so we could have an interesting set. Really anyone, we are so ready to get out there that we don’t turn down any shows.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We are still growing as Centershift, its starting to feel like we are almost there musically, hopefully people will enjoy the effort we put forth
