Carvi (Maria Helena de Carvalho), is a Brazilian singer/song writer. Her sound is very original and, unique growing up all over the world has influenced her musical choices.
For starters, what band were you a part of prior to this?
I've been CARVI since 2013.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The name CARVI came from my last name. Everyone kept saying it wrong and it always bothered me. one of my producers and I were fucking around one day and it just stuck.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write all my songs, either solo or co-writes. I write about a mix of things… mostly about how the world is crazy and I just want to escape. The world today is so sad yet still so beautiful it drives me crazy. hens the EP being called FULE THE CRAZY. I talk about love, hate, being confused, lost, politics…Ive also made it a point to make my tracks elusive so that you can really make it your own. Im not sure if the topics will change, i can’t say for sure. I write about what’s going on in that moment . Only time will tell.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Daughter and Billie Eilish
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
I saw Adele back in 2009 In a small little pub, with just a guitar in a dark corner, at the beginning of her career. It was a loud pub with a lot of drunks. The moment she started to sing the whole place went silent. It was honestly the most beautiful thing i have ever felt and experienced. That made me want to invest in my song writing and really write better/ do better.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
I vocal warm up, take a shot of whiskey, send a prayer out into the universe and God, and i yell aT myself in the mirror for a bit.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Finishing this EP! I can't wait for it to come out later this year.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Spice Girls at the height! they just seemed like the coolest chicks to be around. Touring with them must have been wild!....or a shit show now that i think about it.Ha!
