For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Blacklite District? How long has the band been around?
We started this band before we were teenagers and this is the only group we've ever been in. The band has been around technically for 15 years, but we've really hit the national scene in terms of radio and touring over the past couple of years.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We went through many different band names while we were teenager before latching onto "Blacklite District." There is no special or abstract meaning behind the name. It's a sound we wanted to create.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We produce and record all of the music ourselves in my (Kyle's) home studio. Topics of songs always change and will continue to change. We strive on making the lyrics original, top notch, and most importantly, real.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We draw inspiration from all across the board. Hip hop, pop, rock, metal, you name it. From Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots, to Sabbath, Linkin Park, GNR, and many more. We try to write music that we would wanna listen to and keep it as diverse as possible.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
For me, it was Ozzy Osbourne. For Roman, it was Linkin Park.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We always do our vocal warm ups on the way to the show from the hotel. It's very important. Not the funnest thing to do, but it's gotta be done. We like to stay in a positive mindset to make sure we can deliver the best show we can.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Getting major airplay on SiriusXM Octane, and getting over 40 million views on YouTube in 2017 with our Minecraft animated videos and YouTube channel partner RAINIMATOR. More to come.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Guns N Roses on their "Not In This Lifetime" tour... because why not?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We want to thanks all of the fans for their support in helping make our single "Cold As Ice" a smash, and we'll see you on the road!
