Unsigned Spotlight: Audio Reign

Audio Reign was formed in 2011 with the vision of creating an inimitable Australian Rock sound, molding driving heavy guitars with melodic vocals and harmonies.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Jake Fleming – Lead vocals, rhythm guitar // Ash Lovett – Bass guitar, backing vocals // Alek Dyrynda – Lead guitar // Dieter Schoell – Drums, backing vocals

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Audio Reign? How long has the band been around?

We’ve all been in plenty of different bands including cover bands over the years but they’re not really worth mentioning here. The important thing is that we found each other and are now solid brothers in Audio Reign.

Audio Reign was formed in 2011 and have been growing and performing ever since. There was a period after 2014 where the band had to deal with some personal issues which delayed the writing of new music etc. but we got through that situation and came back determined, focused and punching harder than ever.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We wanted to find a name that we liked that had not actually been taken by any other band across the world.

We kept putting names into search engines, but everything we liked seemed to be already taken by some other band..

We ended up punching in Audio Reign and it came up clean!

Audio Reign was born!  We’ve always been Audio Reign and have never changed it. It was hard enough finding that name. You punch any two random words into a search engine, and I can just about guarantee that there will be a band with that name (haha).

Ironically, a year or so later, I saw some party cover band in America had taken up the name Audio Reign and even their logo was very similar to ours- I was like WTF!  I messaged them and asked if they had heard of search engines, and their reply was that “it doesn’t really matter because we’re in different countries”. They obviously don’t get the picture that we plan to infiltrate the US!

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Jake writes the lyrics to the songs. The music comes as a mixture from all of us. If someone has an idea for a song, they’ll bring it to the band and we’ll work on it. Sometimes we may put riffs together from different members to create one song, and other times, a song may be written as an almost finished piece by a member and just needs some magic added to it to by the band to give dynamics and the AR touch.

Our songs consist of many different themes, just as the songs themselves can be quite diverse such as the likes of “Betrayal” compared to “Senses”.

There are themes of Betrayal, loss, hope, love, strength, compassion, belief etc.

We feel this is an important aspect when writing an album as we want to make music that will have an affect on many different people. We want everyone to be able to listen to our album and find a song in there that really speaks to them and resonates with them.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Our band has such diverse musical tastes amongst the lads that I couldn’t even begin to tell you what’s going through everyone’s heads. But me personally, There’s probably a cocktail of Sevendust, Alter Bridge and Stone Sour (for starters).

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I saw KISS when I was 6yrs old and I knew right then that hard heavy rock was going to be my thing.

Growing up, listening to the likes of Gn’R, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Skid Row etc.  and my total love for this music, it was inevitable that I (Jake) was going to be in a band no matter what.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc. …

I generally do vocal warmups before a gig (whether it be in a car on the way to the gig, or in the band room), I’ll have a beer or two (haha), then it’s showtime!

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Probably playing the Big Day Out Festival in 2014. Pearl Jam were the headliners for that show and knowing that we played on a festival with them is pretty damn cool. But we have also supported heavy rockers (US) Skillet, and (US) Pop Evil.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I would have loved to have toured (back in the day) with the likes of Metallica or Gn’R. To play those big stadium shows all over the world must have been an absolute mind blowing (not to mention insanely crazy fun) experience.  I would also like to do a tour with Alter Bridge or even Skillet, as their fans are so immersed in the music and totally loyal to the bands- I think it would be nice to be able to experience that and be a part of it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We’d just like you to know that Audio Reign are here to stay, and if you haven’t heard of us yet, we plan on changing that real soon!!

Check us out on our website www.audioreign.com.au (and other socials)!

Thanks to all our fans for your support and loyalty, and thanks to Kill The Music for supporting us bands, we very much appreciate it.
