For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to AMFM? How long has the band been around?
We knew each other from a few different places, but as far playing together we played jazz gigs often together and that is where some of us originally met. There are other guys who have played in AMFM at times who also are great jazz players. I wanted to have a new band so I just called some friends.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
AMFM has always been the band name, but it took a while to get to feeling comfortable with sort of labeling yourself. The name itself relates to music so once i decided I never really looked back and thought that i could have done better. I assume AMFM is a throwback to the days when we would all be listening together at the same time to our favorite music. Nowadays everyone is very isolated while listening.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write the music for the band. Normally lyrics come and start to tell me what to the song is about or which way to write the lyrics. Its very hard to plan on what to write about for me. But it really all starts with a melody and a rhythm for words.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
When I was very young I got into guitar and just wanted to play. I was self taught and met some other kids who wanted to jam also and from there it became part of life.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Embrace the fact that we get to play for people. And relax. The flexing comes after the show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Since we are a very new band we are so excited to just get some new music out there. So far the response has been good. Thats all you hope for.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
War of Drugs would be fun..they have a big sound live. Caveman has some great melodies that are pretty inspiring. We'd be happy with either of those.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yeah..we are releasing a few singles before the EP release "AMFM" that comes out this fall. Check us out!
