Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Ray Jimenez: Vocals
Javi Sardinas: Guitars
Mike Collantes: Drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Acaedia? How long has the band been around?
Prior to Acaedia, all members played in different South Florida bands:
Ray was the frontman in Tech-Death band Abiotic (Metal Blade Records)
Javi played guitar in Metalcore band These Arms of Faith
Mike played drums for Progressive band The Killing Hours
Acaedia has been around since 2014.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Ray wanted a name that started with the letter “A” for the alphabetical advantage. The word Acedia reflected the lyrical themes the band wanted to encompass, so Ray just changed the spelling to “Acaedia” to make it stand out.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Javi is the main songwriter when it comes to the music, and Ray writes the lyrics, but we’re all involved in the process. We used to write everything out first, but lately we’ve been wanting to jam things out more. The topics range from personal experiences to current events, and you can expect the themes of the songs to change over time for sure. It’s only natural that they do as we take on new challenges and encounter other ideas.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
There’s no doubt that our music is influenced by many different artists we grew up listening to. Right now we’re not focused on following any particular band’s footsteps; I don’t think we’ve ever really done that. Our only concern is to write music we enjoy, and to provide a message that serves to “bring us together.” - Divided
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Miami is not a friendly place for Metal, but it used to be. All of us grew up going to local shows, and I think that made us want to be in a band really bad.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We practice almost every single day of the week leading up to show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
We got to play Warped Tour two years in a row (2015, 2016), and that was simply incredible.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Architects and Miss May I are two bands we would love to tour with. We’ve followed them through the years and seen them live a couple of times. They just bring so much energy, and we love the music.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We’re currently working on some new tunes that we can’t wait to share with everyone, so be on the look out for that.
