Unsigned Interview: Worn Spirit

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Mike Poshedly - Vocals/Guitar

Ben Jenson - Bass/Vocals

Craig Rasmussen - Lead Guitar

Christian Urrabazo - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Worn Spirit? How long has the band been around?

Craig and I played in a band called Homelife together from 2010 to 2013 and Ben, Chris and I played in a band called Cave Needles from 2013 to 2014. Worn Spirit started in early 2015 and we're still trying to figure it out.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It kinda stems from growing up and having to do things you don't really want to do. Some of us are home owners, work two jobs and are involved in other projects which doesn't leave a lot of free time to pursue different things when everything seems to be going wrong, but rise and grind I guess.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

It's pretty collaborative. Sometimes Craig or Ben will have a riff or a bass line that we vibe on but normally I'll bring a loosely structured song idea to practice so we can build on it. Song topics vary but are mostly about dealing with depression. I'd like to think that will change over time as we progress but who knows.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We all come from pretty different backgrounds so it would be hard to pin point anything specific. I know we all like Deftones. Growing up my mom constantly music playing in the house. So later when I started trying to find things on my own I heard "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" on the Dave Mirra Pro BMX soundtrack and wanted to start a band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Practice, cigarettes, drinks and some light stretching. In that order.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I'm not sure about our biggest but recording can be somewhat of a highlight. It can be stressful but rewarding. So when we get the chance to do it, it ends up being a lot of fun. The shows we did with Tigers Jaw and Able Baker Fox were cool too.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Well obviously it'd be cool to tour with Deftones. They're one of my favorite bands and inspired me to start one. Some other bands from the past that would be cool to tour with would be Small Brown Bike, Oasis, Hum and Far.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you if you've made it this far. Be on the look out for more tour dates!
