SIGLOS’ new EP Rituales Sagrados comes out today and we asked guitarist Sin Quirin to tell us about each track. Check out his commentary on the EP below!
1. Soga De Los Muertos:
This song idea had been swirling around in my head for a while before I was able to actually get it recorded. Once I recorded the initial demo it came fairly easily but I did make some subtle changes to the main riff. I wanted this track to have a big ominous sound and vibe and I wanted to have some orchestration as well. I love that it has elements of Industrial, Orchestral, Black Metal mixed in with ultra heavy grooves.
2. Morir Para Vivir:
I wanted this song to grab the listeners attention right away. Sledgehammer to the head as soon as that riff comes in. Very rhythmic syncopated guitar parts matching with the kick drum then opening up in the chorus to let it breathe. Also wanted to add a very cinematic ending to the song to make it different from the first half so we brought in some timpanis and orchestration to go along with the massive underlying riff.
3. Por Los Siglos:
This is the song that started the idea for this project. Started writing this music during the pandemic. I had been kicking around this idea for a few months until I finally fleshed it out. I love this track. I love the riff, the vibe and the overall feel. It has some Doom influence which I love. I brought in some Goth elements with some creepy keyboard and chanting background vocals to add some dark atmosphere. The song starts out sludgy and slow and ends in a full on blastbeat. Heavy the whole way.
4. Gran Espejo De Humo:
A classic barnburner riff with that double kick onslaught. Straight up heavy, speed and thrash elements mixed in with dark atmospheric keyboards in the background for that texture. Ultra heavy song that makes your head bang instantly. I wanted to contrast the heaviness with something opposite so I added a very clean sounding keyboard break towards the end of the song and I wanted the song to go out with that clean keyboard to release that tension from the rest of the song. We want to stay outside the box.
5. Llaves Sagradas:
This one definitely brings our latin influence to the forefront with the percussive intro. I love the main riff on this track for the darrk, sludgy slow tempo heaviness. I wanted to add a lead guitar melody going on over that main riff to add to the haunting vibe of the track. The clean vocals during the verses are an incredible and unexpected change to the rest of the song. We had discussed pushing our own boundaries and this is a prime example of just that. I love the night and day contrast from the verses to the choruses and the end of the song going out with the same percussive beat as the beginning.
