Kill The Truth. There will come a day when heroic journalists expose the crimes and terrible things being done by people in the current administration.
Wake The F Up. Hey, do you want to go protest the administration? Well, I would but I have to work tomorrow and I have a bet on a good game tonight. Let’s do it after we finish watching the new season of “The Pitt.” We are frogs slowly boiling in water.
Lick The Boot. It is sad to see members of the GOP caving to the President and putting up zero resistance. Public servants like Marco Rubio used to act with a tiny bit of ethical standards.
Vanishing Journalists. True story. Mark has a friend who went to Moscow to train journalists to do proper reporting with fact checking (prior to Putin). Once Putin came to power, Russian journalists started to simply vanish with no news of their whereabouts. Trump is borrowing tactics from Putin to silence and control the media.
I Love This Country. Well, we are a bit hard to love right now. The album is highly critical of the current US administration, but we need to remind people of the positive elements of our country. There IS something worth fighting for. Mark initially wrote 17 verses trying to capture the beautiful fringes of our society like the great punk rock bars. He focused on adding images of things that are uniquely American like gospel choirs, American football, and old school Country music. Great American things like BBQ and the SF Eagle unfortunately hit the cutting room floor.
This Is War. The Democrats and other entities of opposition are combatting the regime with lightweight tactics and playing “the game” with the old rules. Where is the anger and the energy? You’ve got slogans and they’re going to cheat. You’ve got slogans and they’re packing heat. Unfair fight.
Take This Joker Down. This is a protest song. It’s meant to be sung at a protest or in a bar with a mug of beer in hand. I wonder who the “mother…” might be in the song.
We need some hope. Little Dreamers captures the optimism and hope in young people who are developing talents and skills to tackle the problems we all face. Mark spends time playing Ultimate Frisbee with college athletes and padel with young professionals from countries like Spain, Egypt, Argentina and Morocco. Even though we are sliding into fascism, we still have a vibrant economy that supports innovation and allows hard-working people to pursue complex problems.
Jackboot Thugs. ICE is taking people away without due process and essentially making them disappear which is a common tactic used by fascist governments. Senator Joe McCarthy and Joseph Stalin would approve of these tactics.
