Aborted released their three song EP, La Grande Mascarade on April 17th and we asked the band to tell us about each track. Check out their commentary on the album below.
Gloom and the Art of Tribulation: This is one of the fastest tracks Aborted's ever written. I remember when I listened the first time to the demo Ken made, I was really stoked on the parts that had a lot of room for atmospheric arrangements and layering, especially the riff section starting at around 3:12.
Serpent of Depravity: This song might be my personal favorite of the EP, and I think it's one of Sven's best performances in terms of variety of style and technique employed. The lyrics on this one are very powerful and deal with the psychological toxicity of deceitful personalities on both individuals and society as a whole.
Funereal Malediction: Ok this one's interesting since it was supposed to be featured on “Terrorvision”, but didn't make it because of running time issues; we all thought that 45 minutes of continuous blast-beasts would be sufficient. I'm just really glad we got the opportunity to finally release it. The song starts with an unusual 5/4 time signature riff (the same signature as the first riff on “Terrorvision” the song), but the way Ken wrote it and arranged it, made it feel a lot more natural.
