Had just kicked off the "We Will Detonate!" tour, the energy was fresh and alive on Tuesday. With four bands on the bill for the night, the historical Austin City Limits was prepared in every way for the night. The only downside for about the show ( personal opinion) was the fact the crowd weak for Chapel, Emarosa, and Sum 41. It was sad, the crowd bordered disrespectful. Constantly on their phones, throwing crap on stage, and even booing at one point. But hey. thats a rant for another day.
The first band to hit the stage was Georgia band Chapel. With minimal stage set up and lights, Chapel stuck to letting their music speak for them. With a few technical errors and a few lagging moments from them, all in all Chapel had a pretty good set. The band could benefit from engaging with the crowd more, but as said before, pretty good set. Next band to take the stage was Emarosa. Now,I had never seen Emarosa live, but after last night I can throughly say I will be again. With such an incredible stage presence, the second they took the stage till the end their set was tantalizing. The whole band and their crew ran a tight ship making the technical side of their performance clean and smooth.Sadly only playing seven songs Emarosa didn't have enough time to fully grasp the crowd.
The third band of the night was the band I was personally excited to see, Sum 41. Having caught the band before I knew what to expect, but the best part of the night was the fact Sum 41 topped what was expected. With a full stage set up and a wonderful array of gear, Sum 41 took the stage in a furry of glory. Kicking off their set with "The Hell Song", the band gave it their all. The sad part of the night was the fact the crowd would not engage with any of the artists ( minus PTV), but once again, that's a rant for another day. Sum 41 by far made the night memorable from their stage presence to the fact they didn't let the weak crowd effect them. Playing tracks from their newer work as well as old classics ( even a cover song), Sum 41 is a band everyone should have on a bucket list. Will catching them again. Now the band of the night, Pierce The Veil. As predicated, a good percentage of attendees were here to see them. Within moments of Sum 41 leaving the stage, Pierce The Veil crew members dropped the famous white banner that held the band logo projected. Not soon after the curtain dropped and the band took the stage kicking off their set with "Texas Is Forever". With a wonderfully set up stage, great gear and even better light tech the band played a 13 song set. With great stage presence and an extremely active crowd, the band gave every song their all. Notable songs on the set "Yeah Boy and Doll Face", "Texas Is Forever" and "Stay Away From My Friends".
In retrospect, the whole night was great. From the venue to the lineup did their best to make it a great night for the fans. Now, as with anything, there was a few aspects that I wish was changed, but none the less it was a good night. I would highly recommend to head out to your nearest show and check the tour out!
