Review: They Might Be Giants - Glean

They Might Be Giants seventeenth album, Glean is coming out April 21, 2015. This alternative band from New York has been around for a long while and still make great tunes!

This new album has a lot of familiar styles of other bands such has The Decemberists, Belle and Sebastian and even some Green Day mixed in. Most tracks are quite silly but will get stuck in your head rapidly. Every instrument sounds great together and the song writing of "John Flansburgh" is very quirky. Being this is their seventeenth album and having 15 brand new tracks is quite impressive and shows this band is not done yet!

The first track on this album, "Erase" really shows the style of the whole album is. You were able to listen to this song if you dialed a phone number. That is a pretty dated marketing idea but sounded like it worked out well! This track has the Green Day style I was talking about, especially the somewhat punk guitar strums and the vocals of John.

Overall this album is pretty solid, It was a good listen. Great background music to have on. You may not like the lyrics to most of these since they are family friendly at times, but the instrumentals are there and will leave you pleased! I rate this album a 6.5 out of 10.
