Review: Flies On You - Etcetera

Flies On You is an alternative punk band out of Leeds, UK.

They have just released their second full-length album, etcetera. The band is comprised of only two members yet you wouldn’t know it as you hear the drum beat, guitar, synthesizers, and vocals all coming at you at once. Anytime a band of two people successfully sounds like it is a full 3-4 piece band is awesome in my book. Being this is their second album; you can tell they really improved their overall sound and production quality.

I am in love with the electronic synthesizer under Doug Aikman’s punk vocals on the track, “Can you smell that burning noise”. They really go well together and it reminds me of early Fugazi mixed with The Business.

Aside from the punk sound of most of their songs they also do a few tracks that have a garage-rock sound to them. “Our Little Secret” shows that off brilliantly. The surf style guitar played by Andy Watkins really enhances the range this album has as a whole.

Flies On You’s etcetera is definitely worth listening to, I am really enjoying this 15 track album. I find that sometimes when albums have too many tracks they all start to sound the same. With this album I am thankful there are 15 tracks because I keep wanting more and more. I rate this album a solid 8 out of 10.

If you are interested in buying this or just to listen to some great alternative punk, check out their Bandcamp along with all of their other past releases! Their CD is also on their website if you want a physical copy!
