Chunk! No Captain Chunk! are back with a new album after the release of Pardon My French in 2013. There's been a lot of touring theses last two years between the album along with writing for the new album. Let's take a look and the album and see what has changed over the past 2 years.
The first thing I noticed on this album is the genre is definitely easycore. The first song on the album "Playing Dead" is a heavy start to an easycore album. Bert Poncet comes with very lights vocals while the guitars take a heavier approach in the background. The hook for this song is amazing and really shows the progression Paul Cordebard's backing vocals. Looking at this song as a whole, it shows the Chunk! No Captain Chunk! are still stuck on their teenage angst stage.
A lot of the tracks on this album are a bit softer than their previous releases, but it all perfectly fits together as an album. A good example of this is in the song "Every Moment" where the vocals and instrumentals are soft, yet still fit into the easycore element of this album in the end. Fearless Records should feel it as a blessing that Chunk! No Captain Chunk! have stayed on the label to release this album. My personal favorite "Twist The Knife" shows their pop-punk side and influences that they may take from bands such as The Wonder Years and State Champs. It's great to see them change up the genre for one or two songs and take a break from the heavier side.
Looking overall at the album, it is just as good as their last album. Not too much has changed, but you can tell the band is more experienced in playing and singing. I'm going to give this album a solid 8 out of 10 stars. Although, I am tired of some of the popcore elements they are always displaying they still end up delivering a good song time after time.
