Review: Beartooth 'Aggressive'

On Friday, Beartooth released their second full length album titled Aggressive. This album really showcases how diverse and talented Beartooth really are.

The album opens up with the title track "Aggressive" which is a really fun song that feels like an anthem for our people. It's something that we can all relate to and it's catchy as all hell. “Hated,” which is predominantly clean vocals, and it's a very groovy song that you can just jam along to. Plus it has awesome lyrical content, it's a big fuck you to that person we all know that tries to bring you down to their level (which is usually pathetic). But “Censored” is a turning point in the album for me. This is the perfect amount of passion and angst and the entire song just rocks. Just thinking about it hypes me up again. God, then it follows up with “Always Dead” which slams. This song is anger. Shomo screams most of the song and they take a second to pause and repeat the lyrics “dead” a few times in a really dramatic way that leaves you genuinely anticipating the break down. The album ends on “King of Anything” and the song starts off very melodic: Shomo showcases a smoother side to his voice for the first minute and a half or so. Then it just ends, right as you were wanting more...and I loved it.

I really enjoy how this album can get angry, gritty, and angsty but it still maintains an uplifting message. Most of these songs are anthemic really, moving and momentous songs for the people of our generation. This album makes a statement. It's hard rock at it's finest and still also slams and has metalcore influences. It's diverse and fun and I will be sure to jam this all summer. As long as you enter with an open mind I can guarantee that you will fall in love with this album too.
