First of all, how does it feel knowing the self titled turns 20 this year?
Jepha: Pretty wild, some of the demos from that record are from 2000! It’s been a long and great journey.
How did you feel when the album came out?
Excited/nervous, ready to party.
Where do you think the album fits in the band's legacy?
The Used started in April or May of 2000 - I think it represents the beginning of the so far 22 year adventure for the band.
How did the band approach writing? What inspired the lyrics?
Life stories, things that Bert went through.
Do any of the themes touched on the album still hold relevant for you?
Of course, some of the themes are timeless.
What were your hopes and expectations for the record during the writing and recording process
Just to make it the best we possibly could.
When was the last time you listened to the record?
I listen to some songs when we are planning on playing them for an upcoming tour. But full record, I haven’t listened to in a while. Maybe it’s time I do revisit.
Are there memories and emotions that come back?
Of course! All of them.
What do you remember most about making the album?
Being ridden with anxiety and at the same time having the time of my life.
Were there any bands in particular you enjoyed playing with while touring for the record?
Everyone on the 2003 Warped Tour.
How did things change for the band after the album came out?
People knowing the words to songs was a big change, seeing fans actually singing along.
Do you remember what you were listening to at the time?
No, haha.
Do you think of the album any differently now than you did when you recorded it?
Yes, after 20 years it’s taken on a life of its own.
Did you ever expect the album to have the influence it did?
J- No, not at all. We just wanted to play live and write songs together.
