Premiere: GUIDES - FAILURE / DEFINES

GUIDES is a modern hard rock band blending the textured aggression of nu metal with the emotional depth of post hardcore, delivering a sound built on heavy riffs, atmospheric layers, and melodic intensity. We have an exclusive first listen of their new song “FAILURE / DEFINES”. Check it out below!

FAILURE / DEFINES” was inspired by experiences that were unfolding in real time while I was writing it. There was a period where it felt like people had already decided who I was and what role I was supposed to play in their story. The song explores what happens when you’re forced to accept that not everyone is interested in actually knowing you or accepting you for all of who you are. At some point, you stop defending yourself and start focusing on what you can control. There’s a certain defiance in that realization. If someone needs you to be the villain in their story, so be it. The song is about finding strength in moving forward anyway.

Musically, the song represents our middle ground, balancing heaviness and vulnerability in a way that feels very natural to us. It leans more heavily into our melodic sensibilities and post-hardcore influences while still maintaining the weight and intensity that define our sound. The song is driven by big melodies, dynamic shifts, and a massive chorus that was designed to hit hard emotionally and sonically. We wanted to capture that feeling of carrying a weight for so long that it eventually stops being heavy and instead becomes something you wear on your sleeve." - Jonathan
