Keb Mo will perform at the White House on February 21 in a special concert celebrating Blues music, in recognition of Black History Month. Hosted by President and Mrs. Obama, Keb Mo will be joined on stage by legends Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Gary Clark, Jr., and more, with Booker T. Jones as music director and band leader. The evening will be filmed for a PBS special “In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues" which will air as part of the Emmy Award-nominated PBS "In The White House" series on Monday, February 27 at 9:00pm EST on PBS stations nationwide. The concert, including the President’s remarks, will also stream live at http://www.whitehouse.gov/live. In addition to the performance, Keb Mo will take part in an afternoon educational workshop about the Blues at the White House hosted by the First Lady for middle and high school students from across the country.
Keb Mo is also confirmed to participate in two star-studded tributes at New York’s historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. On February 24, Keb Mo will join Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and more for Howlin’ for Hubert, celebrating the musical legacy of Hubert Sumlin. On March 6, he will return to the Apollo for Robert Johnson at 100, celebrating the centennial of the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson alongside The Roots, Taj Mahal, Big Head Todd and more.
The shows fall on the heels of a landmark year for Keb Mo, who has toured all over the world in support of his latest effort The Reflection, released this past summer on Yolabelle/Ryko. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Blues Album, marking his sixth nomination in this category, with three wins under his belt. Along the way, Keb performed with Daryl Hall in the landmark 50th episode of the critically acclaimed series Live From Daryl’s House. He also performed his hit single “The Whole Enchilada” on Later with Jools Holland as well as Conan.
