Summer Wars is a four piece pop-punk band hailing from Raleigh, NC. On January 20th the quartet released a split with High Wire. The single off of this split "Something To Call My Own" was released in December and the song provides an angst of wanting to be more than you are. Summer Wars has a interesting way of combining this heavy frustration with seemingly carefree and upbeat melodies to create a finished project that you can't hep but sing a long to.
We were able to catch up with Summer Wars to recap their past year and talk about the split with High Wire. Check out what they had to say below and keep your ears peeled for more from these fellas!
Our biggest accomplishment for 2016 was...
I would say playing SXSW was definitely one of the highlights of the year. It was such a fun show with lots of energy.
We enjoyed spending the last year...
We really enjoyed watching our fan base grow in our home state of North Carolina this past year. Playing a big number of shows and noticing more and more people showing up was really gratifying.
Our favorite part of working on this split with High Wire was...
Working with the High Wire guys has been awesome, we actually met through our producer Seth Henderson who thought our songs would work well together. Once I talked with guys and heard there mixes I knew it would be a perfect fit.
To us, "Something to Call my Own" means...
Something to Call my Own is me coming to terms with getting older and wanting to leave my mark on something. It's not about wanting money or physical possessions, it's about having something that when I look back on my life I can be proud of. In a lot of ways it's about what we want to do with this band as a whole.
In 2017, we WANT to...
I would like to put out more video content, whether that be covers of other songs, or just random tour vlogs, I definitely want to pay more attention to that this year.
In 2017, we are GOING to...
Tour more consistently, we have plans for touring in the spring. I hope we can build on that and stay out on the road for the remainder of the year and really grow our fanbase nationally.
