Yesterday I had the chance to sit down and speak with well rounded writer C.M. Bushaw. Speaking on topics such as inspirations, writing style, and processes,he was nice enough to give us a peak into the world that is his writing. Check out the interview below!
Hello! Could you please introduce yourself to the readers?
I go by C.M. Bushaw, nice to meet you.
How did you get into writing? Was there any literature perhaps that inspired you?
I've been reading practically my whole life. When I was younger I remember having over 100 books. So I guess you could say that inspired me.
What does your writing process look like? Anything special that you do? Anything that's helpful?
Haha, Well it's not exactly the best way. But I love to drink coffee, blast music, and chain smoke cigarettes.
How would you describe your writing style?
. Honestly I can't describe my style, I just write and go with the flow you know? Just let it pour out of my brain and that's all.
Is there any aspects of writing that you find difficult? If so, how do you overcome?
I find writing length for me to be difficult whether it be for a book or a song.
How do you approach proof reading material?
I actually never proof read my stuff ha ha. I hate rereading my writing so I let other people do it. But if I don't have someone else to do it then I just leave it.
When you're writing is there a target audience you want to reach?
I like to cater to everyone. But I don't think my writing is meant for everyone at the same time. So I like to write different things. But I will say I don't want younger kids to read my material. I think it's inappropriate for them
When you're writing where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from a lot of things. Sometimes that thing is just seeing what's happening to my friends and family or what not. But there's a lot of times where I'll just sit there and come up with ideas without inspiration.
What would literary success look like for you?
Literary success for me would be to help people or just make them feel. Some of my stuff isn't always to make the reader or listener to feel good. But it's still feeling. I think that's what's most important.
From when you first began writing, how do you think you've evolved creatively?
I don't really know how to answer that. I've always felt the same. That I wasn't a good writer. So maybe that answers your question.
If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it be and why?
I would love to of been the author of Gillian Flynn's sharp objects. She's a phenomenal writer. She writes some pretty disturbing shit. I respect that.
One last question, do you have anyone for someone struggling to write?
Hmm, advice. I'm not very good at giving that. I think the best thing is to keep trying. If you hit writers block just take a break from it. The worst thing you can do is force it. Because when you force it, there's no flow.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me!
