"My song "Self Sabotage" dives deep into what it was like in my brain at that time, where I had this voice inside me asking who was I going to let win: was I going to let my inner saboteur take over or was I going to overcome all the anxiety, fear and pain?
Having come out on the other side of that battle stronger today, I thought it only made sense to film a video for Self Sabotage and share that journey with my fans. Filming the video itself was an incredible experience. I worked with the production company, Eternal Film Productions, which is also run by my best friend of 20 years Nikki Peters and her partner Alexander Thomas. I felt confident in the process from the beginning, trusting her with my vision as a kickass director. Before meeting with the production team, I had a concept in my mind of an innocent girl battling a physical manifestation of the demon sitting on her shoulder. We wanted to take it in a horror story direction, almost like a movie. It gave me the opportunity to explore my acting skills in this music video. Innocent, fragile, vulnerable - I wanted to show the side of me that constantly confronts these dark thoughts.
Once we knew the direction, I knew that I wanted to film at Sassafrass Saloon. It’s this New Orleans-inspired, creepy-looking bar in Hollywood with antique decor that suggests, “Maybe this place is haunted.” The venue had never been used for a music video, so I thought it would make for the perfect backdrop. On the day of the actual shoot, everything just flowed and I had a terrific experience with the production crew. Interestingly enough, there are credible rumors around that Sass is actually haunted and I definitely felt that I tapped into a darker energy while filming, which complemented the vibe of the song."
