Exclusive Video Premiere: Gold Steps - "Misery Loves Company"

Tried and true Austin, TX based pop-punk act, Gold Steps has paired up with Kill The Music today to release their latest music video for their song "Misery Loves Company". Gold Steps has roots deeply embedded in the Austin music scene, but have slowly but surely started to take over the hearts of the rest of the country playing in the surrounding cities in Texas.

The song is a bouncy, upbeat number that deals with the complexities of having a mental breakdown and how it effects all parties involved. "Asking what have I become?", a lyric that particularly encapsulates the essence of the meaning behind the song, knowing you've gotten to a place that you're unsure if you'll be able to pull yourself out of. Vocalist, Liz Mauritz explains that:

““Misery Loves Company” was, strangely enough, inspired by a really bad cat bite. My significant other’s cat had bitten me, and I was having a rough time in life, so this was kind of my breaking point. I threw my bleeding arm in the sink and ran water over the bite while sobbing and kneeling on the floor. It creates a really pathetic picture looking back on it, and I envisioned what it must have been like to deal with me at that point; a broken mess of a person, completely helpless and crying out for help, but not really finding a solution to deal with my issues. The song combines the first- and third-party perspective of someone’s mental breakdown and the frustration and helplessness all parties involved feel.”

While unrelated to the meaning, the video itself showcases a much different side to Gold Steps, giving you a glimpse of what it's like to spend time with the band. The video is high energy, bright, and fun, giving you a little taste of punk kids meet the lifestyles of the rich and famous. You can catch the exclusive premiere of the video for "Misery Loves Company" below and be sure to keep your eyes out for Gold Steps!
