Hailing from NYC, Johnny & the Bootlegs bring swagger and style to the stage, with a wonderful meshing of soul-inspired rock n' roll! Reflecting on Johnny's "wild six years" of NYC nightlife, as he (aka John Santiago) was the general manager of Webster Hall prior to its closure. The band are gearing up for the release of their EP NYC Rags and you can stream it exclusively below!
Vocalist John Santiago described the EP saying, "Thrift Shop speaks about the odd underlying nature of wearing someone else's clothing, while NYC Woman is a direct discussion of the extremes present in NYC dating. Hesitant is a haunting ballad that piggybacks on the damage of those extremes, causing people to hold back, cautious of city love. Wings is a broken hearted guitar tribute to Jimi Hendrix asking annex to“fly away”. Lastly, "Hey, Jenny" is about the desire and need for love, though unrequited in the face of screaming sincerity."
The band celebrating the release of their EP tonight, May 10, at the brand-new NYC venue Coney Island Baby. For new fans, Johnny described what to expect at a J&tB show, "It’s a Blues show, it’s a punk rock show and it’s straight ahead rock n roll. There is a rawness and a realness that is evident in our playing and performing. You’ll most likely shake your head and grab a beer." They're playing alongside Bash & Pop, and Liza Colby Sound.
