This week I'd like to address the question: "Do you really need your phone at a concert?". I had the pleasure of seeing All Time Low last night, but in my enjoyment my view was blocked.
All Time Low started and about 75% of the people in front of me pulled their phones out. Do you need to catch the first moments of the band coming out? I'm sure if one person takes the video and puts it on YouTube it'd be just the same.
Not only are people taking videos (not even snapchats; actual videos) but they need to update their Twitter, Facebook and text their friends. People are being consumed more and more by their phones rather than enjoying the show they paid to see. Although I would like to commemorate artists who allow no phones at their concerts.
One of these artists happens to be Jack White (ex-White Stripes singer/guitarist). At all of his concerts he has one of his staff come out and say no video taking or photos. To entice people to follow this rule, he has pictures taken of the event by his professional photographer and posted on his website. Should more artists start enforcing the "no phone" rule? Let us know via Twitter, Facebook or in the comments!
