Corey Taylor's Vocals Improved Vastly When He Got Sober

Corey Taylor’s vocals improved so much when he quit smoking/drinking. Anyone with a trained ear will notice the difference. Check out the examples below.

It’s actually the best fuckin’ decision besides quitting drinking. As a singer especially. I got so much of my register back. But health-wise, every time I give up something like that, it has just improved me as an entertainer, as a singer, as a writer. Clear-headed, I’ve been able to write some of the best thoughts that I’ve ever been able to. (Source)

First, let’s check out the best songs from .5 The Gray Chapter:

For all the guitar players reading this: Jim Root filmed a few lessons showing how to play these songs. Those can be viewed here and here, respectively.

Next, let’s listen to a few songs from their latest record, We Are Not Your Kind. Jim Root was on Song Exploder and deconstructed their comeback single, “Unsainted.” Around the 8:40 mark in the podcast, you can hear Corey’s isolated vocals from the song.

The choruses for “Nero Forte” and “Critical Darling” shows off how good Corey’s vocals sound!
