Today’s contribution to our 5 Albums That Influenced Me feature comes from Golden Tanks!

Deftones – White Pony: I’m a massive Deftones fan boy and this is hands down my favourite album of all time. A friend back in school first gave me a copy and I must have listened to it thousands of times since and it never gets old. As a frontman/vocalist I don’t think there is anybody I look up to more than Chino Moreno.

The Hives – Your New Favourite Band: The riffs on this album are awesome. The Hives a such a cool sound and Hate to say I told you so and main offender are songs that you can instantly recognize when you hear those riffs.

The Bronx 1: The Bronx have been a big influence for us and this is probably my favourite album of theirs. It’s the perfect mix of punk and hardcore.

The Ghost of a Thousand – New Hopes, New Demonstrations: We constantly have this album playing in the van. One of the best bands to come out of Great Britain in my opinion and this album is fucking awesome. Again the riffs on this album stick in your head for ages.

Megadeth – All the albums: Important reference for any band because if you write anything that sounds remotely like Megadave, it’s going to be shit.

The Hives will return to the U.S. in February for a nationwide arena tour in support of P!nk. Kicking off February 13 in Phoenix, the dates will take them to 25 cities across the U.S. See below for details.

The band is currently in the midst of a world tour - kicking off their European headline dates next week - in support of their widely-acclaimed new album Lex Hives that has included show-stopping sets at Coachella, Reading & Leeds and Jay-Z’s Made in America festival, as well as appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Last Call with Carson Daly and more. Carson will air a second episode with The Hives on December 10, featuring two songs from their October 8 set at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.

The Hives will be the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday October 5, performing the worldwide television premiere of “Take Back The Toys,” a song from their lauded new album Lex Hives. The appearance comes as the band gears up for the second leg of their West Coast tour, kicking off October 6 in Pioneertown, CA and marking the last time the band will perform in the U.S. this year. In addition, Last Call with Carson Daly will air two songs from their recent set at The Wiltern on Monday, October 8.

The upcoming dates are the latest on The Hives’ world tour which included powerful sets at Coachella earlier this year, as well as Reading & Leeds and Jay-Z’s Made In America Festival just last month. The band will continue on to Europe for a headlining run before heading to Australia to finish out the rest of the year. See below for all touring details.

The Hives’ live shows are widely praised, with SPIN proclaiming “this Swedish quintet remains one of the most riveting live rock bands of the last dozen years,” anointing Howlin” Pelle Almqvist as “one of the greatest frontmen in rock.” Their new album Lex Hives has seen similar worldwide accolades. NME declares “let it be said that Lex Hives is amazing,” and Q Magazine's 4-star review asserts “Lex Hives fizzes with the energy of a debut album, the quintet emphatically back to what they do best.” Likewise, The Independent states, “if Lex Hives has one fault, it’s that it makes you want to switch it off, go straight out and see the Hives live,” and Entertainment Weekly proclaims “the Hives have returned to remind us the Swedes do it better.”

The Hives are Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, and Vigilante Carlstroem.

The Hives' anticipated new album Lex Hives is out tomorrow June 5th! In celebration, the band is taking over VICE's music channel Noisey.com. Every day this week, Noisey will post exclusive video footage from The Hives’ performance at Webster Hall Studio on April 26 in NYC. The buzzed-about “secret show” at the tiny venue was widely acclaimed, with MTV praising their “superhuman capacity for consistent excellency,” and SPIN anointing Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist as “one of the greatest front-men in rock.”

The first two videos are now live at Noisey.com - please feel free to re-post & share:

Lex Hives is receiving worldwide praise, with NME declaring “let it be said that Lex Hives is amazing,” and Q Magazine's 4-star review asserting “Lex Hives fizzes with the energy of a debut album, the quintet emphatically back to what they do best.” Likewise, The Independent states, “like the Ramones or Motörhead, the Hives are commendably unchanging. You know exactly what to expect: high-energy, hugely entertaining garage rock. If Lex Hives has one fault, it’s that it makes you want to switch it off, go straight out and see the Hives live,” and The Toronto Sun praises “a mighty half-hour of slashing guitars, crashing drums - and plenty of neo-Jagger swagger from Howlin’ Pelle. Lex is more.” The Hives recently returned to Later…with Jools Holland where they performed their hit single “Go Right Ahead.”

The band is gearing up for a North American tour that kicks off June 19 in Washington, D.C. A more extensive U.S. headlining tour is in the works for this Fall and includes a stop in Denver on September 16 for a KTCL radio show at Red Rocks alongside Silversun Pickups. Further details to come.

The Hives are Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, and Vigilante Carlstroem.

Hello dear, dear person. Do you think that the “Rock Band Of The Year” should be a band that actually plays rock music? By all means read on. The world’s wisest musical council and international rock sensation, The Hives are back! On June 5, Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, and Vigilante Carlstroem will return with their fifth stunner - the 12-track contemplation of all law that is Hives - Lex Hives. The term “Lex Hives” is a phrase derived from the ancient Roman practice of enacting a system or body of laws and accepting them as a standard. Thus, the 12 songs on Lex Hives makes up the holy laws after which all life from now on must be lived. Chiseled into the melted wax cake 33 1/3 long-player, Lex Hives will be released on The Hives’ own label Disques Hives. Self-produced, self-played, self-released, and self-promoted, these 12 songs are not built to fit just anyone. These are not songs that sound equally good played on an acoustic guitar by the campfire. This is not music. This is compressed carbon hidden in the earth’s crust for millions of years and unearthed, to be placed in your eardrums. Blistering proof can be found with the lead single, “Go Right Ahead” streaming NOW at RollingStone.com. Lex Hives was produced by The Hives and mixed by Grammy Award winner Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele), with two additional tracks mixed by D. Sardy (Marilyn Manson, Slayer) and Joe Zook (Weezer, Modest Mouse). The deluxe version of Lex Hives will feature bonus tracks produced by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

After the 400 gigs and 25 nights in hospitals that followed the 2007 mind-blower The Black and White Album, The Hives are once again set to return to the world stages - beginning with an appearance at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Weekend One: April 13-15/Weekend Two: April 20-22). On Monday, April 23rd the band will make their return live appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage (ABC 12am/11pm Central). In celebration of the world’s new favorite holiday, Record Store Day, the band will release the limited edition 7 inch single for “Go Right Ahead” that features the unreleased track “1000 Answers” on Saturday, April 21st.

Louder. Bolder. Prouder. More convinced than ever. The Hives are finally out of the dark ages and steering toward the light. This is THE LAW. The Law that is Hives. LEX HIVES! The laws of nature are pale in comparison and The Hives demand nothing but complete obedience.
