Shelby Schimcek writing for Women In Metal:
“ I’ve been listening to the genre for eight years and I definitely know what I am talking about. However, there has been plenty of times where I was never taken seriously when I told a guy I listen to metal. I typically get weird looks or I get told I don’t look like I listen to metal and the most popular question, “then what bands do you listen to?” I have to answer that question carefully. I know if I name a certain band right from the start, I’ll lose all credibility even though chances are that guy listens to that band (secretly) too. The look, not dressing the part and criticized by the bands I listen to: those are the three stereotypes I have experienced and this is typically the order it happens in when talking to a guy about metal. That’s if our conversation gets past “the look” phase.”
