Unsigned Spotlight: The Spectators

The Spectators are four boys from the East suburbs of Cleveland that enjoy weird accents, cheap food, and forgetting songs.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Christian Evans - Bass/Vox
Patrick Farmer - Guitar/Vox/Mom
Josh Jones - Guitar/Vox
Mike Taddeo - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Spectators? How long has the band been around?

Me and Mike Taddeo (Drummer) were part of a band called The Independent and thats how we orignally met and began playing music with one another. As a whole we've been a band since 2013. But with the current lineup we've had for closer to a year

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

I just had always had the idea in my head to name a band "The Spectators" because then I could make the joke that we had never played a show only watched. And everyone happened to enjoy the idea so the name has stuck.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Musically we all write the songs in my house. but lyrically we all switch off duties depending on who has immediate ideas for song lyrics or moods. normally we just write about current life events wether they be happy or sad. Just whatever we're going through we'd like to let out or even past experience.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

All of us have influences that really span across the Indie/Punk/Emo scenes including Lydia, La Dispute, Movements, Four Years Strong, Real Friends, Into It. Over It., AJJ. Literally everything we do is a compilation of just hundreds of artists we all take influence from

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Light Years, we always looked up to them a lot.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Personally I often like to separate from the room and just do some deep breathing or even just put earplugs in and just kind of calm myself down before I play.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I'd say we have a lot of accomplishments to us. Our first Full Length "The Way Things Used To Be" we put out at the end of March this year and we've been essentially doing everything to back this record. We've also gone on tour which was huge for us having never left Ohio to play our music before. And we've also been put on a show with Neck Deep that is really awesome to us. really just any experiencer we get we are so thankful for.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

-If we could tour with any bands I'd say it would be any of our influences, Into It. Over It., La Dispute, Light Years. I feel like that would just be great because every night you'd feel even more inspired to keep going the next day and even write new songs.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Our record is on any music retailer; Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, etc.
