Unsigned Spotlight: Super Low
With a new name, and a brand-new self-titled album ready to share with the world, Super Low are poised for much bigger stages and more acclaim. Super Low doesn’t know what’s to come but with this spectacular new album ready to drop and a ball of pent up energy at their core waiting to burst free, they won’t stay a local secret for very much longer.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
The band switches up a lot, but the constant touring members are me (Tiger Adams), Conner Booth (bass), and John Lewandowski (drums). We have rotating members Walt Phelan (guitar), Spence Bailey (guitar and keys), Annalisabeth Craig (violin), Jawaun Crawford (trumpet), and Mitch Mealer (keys).
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We were in a band called China Gate, pretty much the same music but we changed the name because we have to switch the lineup around to be able to tour regularly.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write the chords and melodies and then I usually have our old keyboardist Harrison help write the instrumental melodies. I always end up sounding dumb when I try and explain what the songs are about, but I think they are about trying to find a balance between everything and probably helping me make sense of things.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
I've been listening to a lot of Jessica Pratt, Shy Boys, Harlan, Bill Callahan, Video Age.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Pretty funny answer, but since we both grew up in Memphis I looked up to MGMT when I first started. They were probably the first not alternative heavy rock band I listened to. Congratulations came out when I was in eighth grade and it got me really into songs instead of bad hard rock.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
I do 300 push ups
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Biggest highlight has probably been opening up for Dent May and Shannon Lay I am an embarrassingly big fan of both.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
haha actually two years ago I said Dent May which is funny, but I don't know maybe Destroyer
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We've got some tours coming up and three more singles that are finished being recorded that were going to put out in between tours!
