Unsigned Spotlight: Nowhere Left

Nowhere Left formed with 4 friends who truly felt like they had nowhere left to turn to. This band and the songs we write together encompass those emotions of being at rock bottom but also realizing that once you hit that bottom, there’s nowhere left to go but up.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Dom Delfino - Vocals

Jay Schwartz - Guitar

Sam Leo - Guitar

Nick Drago - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Nowhere Left? How long has the band been around?

We were all in and out of small local bands throughout the years but most notably Dom, Jay and Nick played together, whereas this is Sam's first band ever.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Our band name has a double meaning, it comes from a place of feeling like we all have hit a point in our lives where we have Nowhere Left to go, like we've completely hit rock bottom. At the same time realizing that when you hit that low, there's nowhere left to go but up.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We write our songs collaboratively in the studio with our producers Zack Keel and Josh Landry. We have a handful of songs in our vault that reflect on traumatic experiences, being taken advantage of, cancel culture, relationships, and suicidal ideation. We touch on things very personal to us and depending on where we are in life those may change overtime but our goal is to shed light on the things we go through that people don't seem to talk about and hope that it helps others who may be going through similar situations.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We took a lot of inspiration from bands like Thousand Below, Slaves, nothing nowhere and From Ashes To New.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Dom: I started my first band at the end of highschool. I was listening to Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack! and a lot of other metalcore bands from that era. I was uploading guitar covers to YouTube and felt like I wanted to do more.

Jay: Linkin Park, Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada and Underoath. All of those bands I truly feel stick out from the rest and hold great inspiration and relevance to different, newer generations of musicians.

Nick: Saosin, Blink 182, and Say Anything. Musically and artistically, each of these bands held the spot as my “favorite band” at certain points in my life. All of which still inspire me to keep writing music to this day.

Sam: bands like tigers jaw, i set my friend on fire, tiny moving parts, and you blew it all made music that just clicked with me. when i heard their stuff i was like “yup. that’s what i desire to create one day”. and i think this band is finally giving me that chance to create something i’ve always wanted to.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

Dom: I usually stretch and sit in the van for 20-30 mins doing vocal warm ups.

Jay: Lots of stretching haha. But also just to get on stage with a clear head. That 20-30 minute time frame you have on stage is truly euphoric where you can forget about all your problems.

Nick: I feel like show preparation is an all day thing. Not in a way where I’m actively doing things to prepare, but more so just enjoying the hype during the day leading up to the performance. I see it as something to look forward to.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We are just releasing our first single so there isn't much to say other than recording the current music we are sitting on.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Jay: Linkin Park & Slipknot. I think Slipknot is everyone’s bucket list band to tour with. Just an astronomically huge band that puts on more than a show, it’s literally an experience. And to be able to sit back and take that all in every night would be a dream come true. And Linkin Park (RIP Chester) would be the biggest honor in the world. “Hybrid Theory” is the album that made me decide at an early age that I want to have a career in music. That band changed my life.

Dom: I have to agree with Jay. Linkin Park and Slipknot were huge inspirations for me growing up and still are to this day. Getting to see their performances every night I feel would not only be incredible but would teach us so much. I would also love to tour with my current favorite artist nothing, nowhere. The emotion that Joe makes you feel with his music is indescribable.

Sam: i have always dreamed of touring with tigers jaw, the wonder years, and tiny moving parts, because each group has made a significant impact on my life, especially tigers jaw.

Nick: I’d definitely wanna tour with Don Broco. They’re just hilarious and give off a good vibe.
