For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Con Etiquette? How long has the band been around?
Antonino was solo before the band going as "Antonino", Mikey was in a heavier band called "Dead Girls" from CT, and also in indie acoustic band called "2 AM" Brian and Vin were both in a band called "The Scarlet Knife". Vin was also in a band called "Set it to flames".
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The origin of the name of the band was very sporadic, Antonino was just driving and thought
of Con Etiquette, as a play on words as well as the state we're from.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We all collectively write these songs as a band, they usually start as an idea and then evolve
into a song. As far as lyrics, all are written by Antonino. These songs vary in meaning,
but for the most part they are about events that have helped change me as a person, some good some bad, but are all very meaningful to me. I'm sure that will change over time, as we change as people over time and these life events differ with age. These songs will always be something we feel very strongly about, if its not changing me in some way, it's not worth writing about.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We get inspiration from all over the place, I think it's tough to narrow that down, as we all
listen to different styles of rock. We get influences in all sorts of ways, not only from the
sound of a certain band, but the emotion and power that band might radiate. For instance there might be a certain way words are said, sung or screamed that really inspires us to look further into the lyrics we shout and sing and scream to emphasize a point we're trying to make. As far as the music itself, it kind of just comes to us when we jam. This question
is tougher than it sounds.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
For me(Antonino) it was Brand new, I saw them at a small venue called the Webster Theater in
Hartford,CT circa 2004. It was such a high energy set, and I loved the music. Ever since that
day, I figured out that, that's what I want to do. Write and play good music, and have high
energy sets.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We definitely spend some time stretching, it helps us get loose so we can freak out on stage.
We drink plenty of water before a show, it's crucial. And last but not least, we get stoned
before every show. It's a requisite.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
I think it's definitely our debut album. We spent a lot of time working on it, and have
been very fortunate to play some incredible shows with some amazing people along the way.
I think this album really does a great job on expressing who we are as a band.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
To name a few, it would have to be Brand New, The Used, Bayside, Foxing, Balance and Composure, Circa Survive, i don't know the Beatles? (who wouldn't want to play a show with the Beatles?) We focus on playing shows, with other high energy bands, it just makes for a hell of a show.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I think our music speaks for itself, it tells a story of what we are about. The good, the bad, the grueling, they helped shape us as individuals and as artists. Con Etiquette is just the byproduct of this crazy and exciting life.
