For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to A Decade Apart? How long has the band been around?

Josh, Sean, Donnie- Silent Days

Travis- Inner Reflection

Justin- Absolute Hero

We have been together as A Decade Apart for 3 years

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We have not changed the bands name.

The name A Decade Apart comes from the fact that music brought us together a long time ago (Josh, Sean and Donnie) and then we took a break from playing but decided years later to get back at it. In the last 10 years we have all gone through so much individually with relationships, jobs, kids and life but the love of music has brought us back together and is something we absolutely love doing.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Most of the songs are written by Donnie and Josh.

Our themes and topics being struggles that we have dealt with in our life and are still dealing with. We cover relationship issues, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, suicide. The topics do tend to change with what we have going on or what we are feeling in the writing process.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Palisades, I Prevail, The Word Alive, Fit For A King are just a small few that have helped influence us.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Any. I think if you play an instrument and write songs there is just a natural desire to want to play and share that with people. Every concert we attend makes us want to play a show, improve as a band and inspires us to get to the next level.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

We definitely have to stretch (we are getting older and feel every show the next day).

We don’t really have any routines as a band, but individually we all have littles things we like to do.

Josh likes about 15 minutes of alone time to just get lost in his head before a show. It helps him focus and relax.

Donnie usually drinks an energy drink of some sort (usually Monster *Wink, Wink)

Sean and Justin will just drink a beer and hang out, while Travis is usually nowhere to be found, so we don’t know what he does.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I would say we have been fortunate to have a lot of highlights. We have played with some amazing Bands, at some amazing venues, but I think we can agree that the show that takes the cake was probably playing with Parkway Drive in May of 2018. That show was at the historic Newport Music Hall on The Ohio State University’s Campus. It was a sold-out show. It was Parkway Drive. Also, the intangibles of free parking, stagehands that carried all of our equipment in and out for us, an actual green room (that we didn’t get to spend much time in). We just felt amazing the entire night, like we belonged, and it was an eye-opening experience into what we wanted to achieve as a band.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I think that we would all tour with difference bands for different reasons. Its hard to narrow it down.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Don’t forget to check our EP’s Premonitions Part 1 and Part 2. We have some good stuff in the works, great shows coming up and look for another single to be released sometime this fall.

Please follow us on all Facebook, Instagram, Spotify Apple Music, etc, and come out to a show.
