Neal Avron Looks Back On ‘From Under the Cork Tree’

Neal Avron wrote a blog on MySpace (of all places) where he reminisces meeting Fall Out Boy and reflects on recording From Under the Cork Tree.

When we finished the record I thought we had some strong songs. I didn’t know what kind of acceptance would be out there for Fall Out Boy. They had a pretty hardcore following but it was contained still at that point. First of all I thought “Dance, Dance” was going to be that first single. I thought it had that up-tempo thing and was so different from anything on radio groove-wise and vocally. I thought it would stand out, and the label went with “Sugar.” The video was very interesting and different and eclectic. I think that stood out and really helped the record. I had no idea it would debut at No. 9 or have the immense success that it did. I thought it could have success but I certainly didn’t walk in expecting it.

Fall Out Boy: "We're Not Playing A Greatest Hits Tour"

Rolling Stone did an interview with Fall Out Boy where they talked about Uma Thurman, Spotify, 21 Jump Street, and not playing a greatest hits tour. I'll just say this, they've done more since putting out Save Rock & Roll than blink182 have since reuniting.

I will straight up say that I will never tour if we aren't writing new music," says Stump. "There's no amount of money. Some bands put out great records later in their career. I love the Who's Endless Wire. Then you see them on the tour and they are about that record. It's cool to be the older band playing the new album, and then you play the hits and there's new life in them. Nothing is sadder than an old band that doesn't care and goes out and just plays the hits."
