Disfiguring The Goddess will be releasing a new album, titled “Bloom,” on July 31 through Seek And Strike.
When Mr. Big Chocolate announced he was going to release the album, 'Deprive', for his one-man Slamming Brutal Death Metal band, Disfiguring The Goddess, the Metal world whipped into a frenzy at the idea of such a thing. Yep, people were excited but he then did something no one ever expected... he secretly worked on a second album. When he started streaming 'Deprive', he suddenly whipped out 'Black Earth Child' too. To say it was a surprise is an understatement. This album slams hard, from the get go. Seriously, the moment it begins, it doesn't slow down. It leaves you rather speechless at the end and I'm damn well surprised that this isn't some piece of ass he decided to conjure up real quick to get more money. Instead, he has taken time doing this, clearly showing he just wants to give more to his fans. And damn, he does just that in some hard hitting style.
Starting off is the self-titled effort. When I said it slams hard from the get go, I meant it. Seriously, the first sound you hear is a blast beat... it's pure slam, something that makes you want to punch someone in the face for no apparent reason. It kicks some serious ass with the tightest snare sound I've heard in a while. The guitars and bass are terrific and those vocals sound meaty as hell, bringing the brutality full circle. For a one man project, this is purely amazing. From there on in, it's slamming goodness for all. It goes through its tracks faster than a wrecking ball would go trying to hit Miley Cyrus. It's intense, with tracks 'The Mother's Hand, Sixteen', 'All That Is Flesh' and closing track 'Phantasmal Temptest' slamming your bones so hard together that you'd probably shatter if you moved afterwards. This is technical, tight and fierce, not letting up on its brutal feast until it's done. But the music isn't the only impressive thing. The mixing is done well and makes this sound like a proper Slam album, instead of overly producing it. It has that slightly raw feel to it, making it feel that slightly more in your face. Whether it is simply how it turned out or if it was intentional, either way it works beautifully.
So then, his secret second album was unleashed to the Metal masses like a caged monster and damn... what a monster this is. Now, this isn't the best slam on earth, for that you need to dig deep, but this is still bloody good! And considering it was done by one mastermind, it makes it extra special. I don't really have any faults with this, it's that damn good. If Cam keeps up this record of releasing astonishing albums, then he may well be one of the few people who will bring Slam to the forefront of Metal. Heavy, fast, aggressive and beautiful. Until the next time Cam, keep up the bloody good work!
