Australia's well known post-hardcore/metalcore act, The Amity Affliction, recently dropped their fourth full length LP titled "Let The Ocean Take Me". This band having their last two albums hitting high on Australia's music charts have let listeners down on this full length, providing them with nothing more than another shallow post-hardcore album. 

The album opener, Pittsburgh, sounds like a single from Rise Records. There's nothing interesting about the riffs, nothing fun to listen to by the drummer (Ryan Burt), and lyrics that make you cringe sung by both Ahren and Joel. SImple drum beats, single strums from the lead guitarist and lyrics like "I've been searching for an exit but I'm lost inside my head; Where I spend every waking moment, wishing I was dead." , cannot exist in a strong and enjoyable metalcore track. Most of the album is this way, it's very shallow, meaningless, boring, and just plain bad.

A track that did catch me off guard on the album, though, was the third track "Don't Lean On Me".  After hearing two very weak tracks in a row I wasn't expecting anything at all from the rest of the album but this track came in soft and subtle with a twinkling piano playing a few notes, which caught my attention. The suddenly a scream angrily sounded and belted, "Let the ocean take me!" followed by some nice structural chugging that I actually enjoyed. The chorus then caught my attention again with the excellent flow of the track, sure these lyrics were as bad as the rest of the album but they could be looked past.

One of the only other tracks that caught my eye was "Never Alone". It comes in confidently sounding like an upbeat pop song, but then unfortunately fades out to more boring chugging, sung choruses (although slightly enjoyable), and yelled verses.

The rest of the tracks on album were very boring and something I probably wouldn't ever really listen to ever again.

Overall, it wasn't a painful experience listening to this album but a very unexciting one at that. This band had practically nothing to offer, with so many people I heard hyping this album up I just couldn't see it. I gave The Amity Affliction many chances and all I got out of it was the affliction part of the name.
