Unsigned Spotlight: Without a Sin
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
The band is composed of Amin Korchi (vocals), Maxence Thibaux (guitar), and of Rémi Gustavson (drums).
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Without a Sin? How long has the band been around?
Maxence played guitar in a garage rock band in college. Rémi played drums for a rock band called Electrochoc for 3 years and then joined a deathcore band called The Utopian Punishment for 2 years. Amin joined a punk hardcore band called KILL? as a singer for 2 years. He then joined a metalcore band called FFD in the same position for 1 year and played bass guitar for a pop-punk band called Crooked for a few months.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The meaning of WITHOUT A SIN is the following: when opinions can nowadays divide us, with or without sins, we can still stand together and be the best version of ourselves. This is the meaning of the band’s name and it never changed before.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Most of our songs have been written by Amin and the predominant topic is love. Love in general, towards family, friends or a lover. We like to speak about this since everyone can relate to this topic, it can take many different forms even if it's not always bright or positive.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Mostly Bring Me The Horizon for the rock side, Chase Atlantic for the sad vibes and a few K-pop bands here and there such as BTS or Ateez, for the breathtaking materials - and perfect delivery in general.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Maxence was inspired to start playing guitar thanks to the guitarist Mark Knofleur and bands like Metallica, Black Label Society or Bring Me The Horizon, for Rémi it was the British metalcore band Architects and the well known German act Tokio Hotel. Amin was inspired by bands like Asking Alexandria, Alesana or B.A.P.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc.
We usually do a little exercise, rehearse and make sure everything is set and good! It's always so overwhelming to hear the audience screaming before the show and at the same time it is kind of scary.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Being able to release a debut single reaching 300k streams on Spotify and 30k views on Youtube as an independent band, receiving support messages on a daily basis, and having very talented fans making incredible fanarts, are incredible things we are grateful for! One of them even had a WITHOUT A SIN tattoo which is unreal!
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Bands like Bring MeThe Horizon, Chase Atlantic, Nothing Nowhere because we kind of grew up as a band listening to them.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We sincerely hope you will get the chance to listen and enjoy our second single COLORS, which is a succession to our debut single, FRI-END. It speaks about an episode of Amin's life: betrayed by his former best friend and girlfriend. The lyrics deliver intimate details about the course of emotions he went through. We wanted to share these personal feelings that are some relatable things that anybody could experience. Whatever the difficulties, you are never alone.
