With their unique sound – a fusion of musical genres, all of which rock – Within Reason first started making a name for themselves in 2005. Six months after releasing their first demo, the band was chosen in a worldwide fan vote that culminated with the opportunity to perform for millions on the popular TV show One Tree Hill. The release of their first full length record "Bloodshot Life", recorded by multi-platinum producer Rick Beato (Shinedown), took the band out on the road with major acts including, Bret Michaels, Buckcherry, Halestorm, P.O.D., amongst several others.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Within Reason? How long has the band been around?

David Koonce was in a rock band based out of Tuscaloosa, AL called Shade Tree (2000-2005). Chase Davidson former frontman of Birmingham band, Red Halo.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name
before?

We would rehearse in a house on the south side of Birmingham and the neighbors would call the police with noise complaints. The same cop would show up every time and tell us to take break for about a half hour then keep the volume “within reason”

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all write together. our songs are about real life things and people in our lives. The topics don’t usually change but we like to let the music evolve over time

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We have many influences from Linkin Park, 30 Seconds To Mars to Rage Against the Machine and Frank Sinatra. It's a wide mix.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

For me personally, it was seeing the Allman Bros is 95 that sparked it for me.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We always do some stretches, listen to music and enjoy an occasional adult beverage to properly take the edge off

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Definitely walking the Red Carpet at the Grammy's in 2013

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

The Rolling Stones. One of my favorite bands. It would be fun to live and learn from a legendary band.
