Unsigned Spotlight: Waves in Autumn

Waves in Autumn explore the corrosive effect of humankind on both the planet and each other, presenting vivid and expressive storytelling against the backdrop of scintillating riffs and skull crushing breakdowns.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Waves in Autumn is comprised of Maicol on drums, his brother David as the rhythmic guitarist, Lorenzo “Airon” as the solo guitarist, Ronny on bass, and Davide as the vocalist.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Waves in Autumn? How long has the band been around?

Interestingly, four of us, excluding the singer, had a previous musical endeavour before this project, and we've been making music together since January 2017.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

From the very start, our band was named "Waves in Autumn." This name was chosen during a meaningful moment when, standing together on the seashore at the end of September, we decided to embark on this new musical journey.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Our songwriting process is a collaborative effort, often starting with David and Airon's guitar riffs. Maicol plays a crucial role in giving structure to the songs, while Davide crafts the lyrics. Our primary theme revolves around using nature as a metaphor to convey common and personal experiences. We believe this approach effectively communicates our perspectives on the world and the factors that influence our collective mindset.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We draw inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences, including metalcore bands like Beartooth and While She Sleeps, as well as rock elements from bands such as Don Broco, Turnstile, and Kid Kapichi. We enjoy experimenting with various genres and discovering new artists.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

As fans of metalcore classics, we came together in an area where not many people shared our musical interests, which led us to form this band. Our influences include iconic bands like August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, While She Sleeps, and The Ghost Inside.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

Before a show, we don't follow a specific routine, but we do warm up our fingers and vocal cords. We also motivate each other to give our best performance and leave an impact on the stage.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

One of our proudest moments was our hometown show last summer, where the crowd's energy was unmatched. It was a remarkable experience to witness so many people from our hometown passionately enjoying a metal show by a local band.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

An ultimate dream for us would be to tour with the English band While She Sleeps. They have been a significant inspiration for us both musically and personally, and sharing the stage with them would be a dream come true.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We invite everyone who enjoys our new songs to follow us closely because there are many exciting things on the horizon for Waves in Autumn!
