Unsigned Spotlight: Tidus Is Alive

Tidus Is Alive is the solo project of Denny Ranno, who produces, sings, and plays all instruments.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Denny: Vocals
Dario: Guitar
Luca: Bass
Alfonso: Drum

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Tidus Is Alive? How long has the band been around?

Basically this is a solo project I started in October 2013. I used to play with Alfonso in a band called "One Stop Left" and when I decided to leave the band, he joined him into this project as live act. Dario and Luca that currently play in "South Bridge" and "A Shattered Memory" have joined me shortly after.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It's a clear reference to the video game "Final Fantasy X". Tidus, the main character, was a dream of the fayth and he came to exist because he had to destroy Sin. At the end of the game after Sin's defeat he disappears. But I never wanted to believe that :)

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Since this is a solo project, I write all the songs and play all the instruments as well. The main themes for the songs are my personal experiences, I put literally all myself into the lyrics, emotionally and musically.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Blink 182 for sure, the album "take off your pants and jacket" changed my life. No Use For A name are a big influence for me as well, Tony Sly it's a kind of musical mentor for me.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I can say blink182 again. First time I saw the video for "All the Small Things" I was like: "Damn! I wanna do that"

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

I have a very long warm up, basically the same warm up I have before a recording session with a lot of exercises for my voice and stuff like that.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

It's too early for highlights I guess, this is just begun

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

blink182 and No Use For A Name for being the bands which have influenced me the most, but I'd like tour also with Relient K, and A Day to Remember. I'd also like to tour with Owl City; Adam Young is one of the artists I love the most.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks to Kill The Music for the interview. I hope people who read this, have the chance to check out this project.
