Unsigned Spotlight: Thieves & Lovers

Thieves & Lovers is a rock band from Pittsburgh, PA by way of sunny, sultry, southern California blending melody and driving guitars.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Stoner - vocals/guitars
Justin - drums and percussion
Tony - bass guitar

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Thieves & Lovers? How long has the band been around?

Prior to Thieves & Lovers, Stoner was the lead guitar player in a band from Los Angeles called Rook's Empire. Justin was in a Pittsburgh area band called the Tilt Room.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

There's really no interesting story to the band name. From what I remember it was just a phrase that came up in a conversation and I thought it would make for a cool band name.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Stoner usually comes in with a framework or melodic idea and we expand on it from there. I think song ideas should come from a place that's real

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Really loving Brian Fallon's (Gaslight Anthem) solo stuff, Jimmy Eat World, as well as some newer pop punk stuff like State Champs and Real Friends.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

No one really in particular, but have always respected those bands that seemingly sound better live than on record - like Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews Band, and KISS.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We've been around the sun a few times, so proper warm-up is becoming more and more important. Proper diet and rest, yoga, acupuncture, all of that stuff is really important to us.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Honestly, the biggest highlight for us is the fact that we're still here and are about to release our new record.  After all of these logistical shifts and periodical setbacks, the fact that we are still pushing forward means a lot to us.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

That's a tough one. Probably Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in the 80s, Foo Fighters/Jimmy Eat World in the 90s, and Goo Goo Dolls or Gaslight Anthem in the 2000s.
We feel like each of those bands contribute to an element of our sound.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We have a new record coming out next month called The World is Sleeping. We just released the 2nd single off of the record called "Underneath".
