Unsigned Spotlight: The Weekenders

The three members of The Weekenders use elements of indie, rock, pop and soul to create the sound of their stories. Pianos, guitars and drums accompany words and melodies pouring out of the mouths of these New York and New Jersey boys creating epic sing-alongs on tracks like "Streetlights" and inviting you to sing along with them.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Sean Brody - Lead Vox/Piano
Steve Krause- Guitar/Vox
Joe Fahey- Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Weekenders? How long has the band been around?

Sean Brody was previously in The Victory Drive and currently also plays in Abigail Breslin's band. The Weekenders have been around for about 9 months

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The bands name has not changed and the origin comes from a 90's television show (we are all 90's kids) and the fact that we all love weekends. Who doesn't?

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Sean wrote the first EP. Topics covered include getting away from reality, escape, victory, love and the confusion that we often feel when in love. We are currently working on new/unreleased material, some of which we are playing at our shows now, and Steve has joined in on the writing process. Our next EP will be similar in some ways to our last but different in many ways now that Steve has joined in on writing the instrumentation with Sean.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

21 pilots, Maroon 5, Echosmith, Andrew McMahon

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We all had favorite bands growing up that we wanted to be like. Steve loved the Beach Boys, Sean was a big Something Corporate fan, and Joe liked Avenged Sevenfold. We would play our instruments and dream of one day being like them and in many ways those artists helped mold us into the artists that we are today by inspiring us.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Sean likes to workout the morning of every show and do a few pushups before getting on stage to warm himself up. Steve likes to stretch before going on stage. Joe doesn't really have any pre-show rituals.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The biggest highlight of our career would be our publishing/licensing agreement for our single "Save Your Breath" with CDF, a European label, for Italian and Swiss territories. This just happened and we are very excited to know that our music will be in rotation on radio stations in Europe.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

We would love to tour with Echosmith, 21 pilots, and Andrew McMahon. They all play different styles of music but we feel that we would be a good fit with any one of them. Echosmith writes some really groovy tunes that we love to sing along to, 21 pilots rock and put on an amazing show, and Andrew McMahon is a lyrical genius (as well as Sean's favorite musician).

Is there anything else you would like to add?

First and foremost is that we want to thank the fans for their support. Without them, we have nothing. Second, we would like to thank our families, manager, and publisher. We love you all and cannot wait to show you what we have in store!
