Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Stephen Angello – Guitar/Vox
Joshua Solomon – Bass
Michael Yeager – Guitar
Monte Holt - Drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Escape? How long has the band been around?
We’ve all been in other bands prior to this. Josh and Steve have been playing together for about 9 years. Josh filled in with Monte’s old band for a time. We met Mike through Craigslist. The Escape was formed in 2010.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We chose to name the band “The Escape” because it defines not only how we see music but, why we make music. Music is our outlet, a stress reliever, our method of an escape. The band with a slightly different lineup was known as “Reality Stricken” prior to 2010.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We all have pretty diverse tastes in music. Steve listens to a lot of pop music, Monte and Josh both love metal, and Mike is a big NOFX fan. We all have some common ground in an appreciation for a well written pop jem.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
When you’re a teenager and you’re just picking up an instrument, the older and more experienced kids are as much if not more of an influence than your favorite band at the time. All of Josh’s friends played guitar. Steve’s first concert was Journey and REO Speedwagon. See how we turned out?
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We all warm up on our respective instruments in a quiet place, and then Steve leads the band in a round of me-mo-may moo vocal warm-ups. Sad but true.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Recording with Bill Stevenson was pretty incredible. We were fortunate to fund that through a successful kickstarter campaigning. He was an awesome guy, both as a person and as a producer. A true legend.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Bayside and Thrice come to mind as bands we would collectively like to tour with. Both make really honest music that we all really enjoy and that inspires us to be better at our craft.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
